The Spiders Magnificent Web

As I walked this morning, my eyes were drawn to two trees in the woods beyond me. There perfectly  placed in the middle of the trees was an intrinsically designed spider's web. Absolutely beautiful. Beads of morning dew shone on it like sparkling diamonds. It was actually quite large. Presumably a home for a healthy eight-legged arachnid. There it was so magnificent but yet so simple. God's creation doing what it was created to do. Meticulously done with ease. Not showing-off but no slacking on the job either.

Reading in Philippians this morning I was once again drawn to the words in chapter 3:15, "only let us live up to what we have attained." As I meditated on those words, I thought about how much God had taught me. How much I had learned from others, and through life experiences. Was I using what I had attained? Was I using all that He had given me to the fullest in my own life, in my home, and my dealings with others? And on the flip side...was I trying to do things that He possibly hadn't given me to do?

My prayer, Father God, help me to use what I know in all honesty and humility. Help me use your precious knowledge to do what I was created to do. Help me not step outside of what you have called me to do. Help me not be selfish, arrogant or full of pride, but do what you have called me to do with "Godly confidence." In that way, I know that it will be the masterpiece that you intended it to be.

Just like the spider, I want to do what I was created to do, nothing more...nothing less (it will be beautiful)
